If you have high blood pressure, you want to avoid blood clots, protect your bones from osteoporosis, or you or your loved one is experiencing ED (erectile dysfunction), NO (nitric oxide) can be your answer. Thanks to three Nobel laureates who received the medical Nobel price for their discoveries on NO in 1998, we know so many interesting things about it today!
You can’t eat it in a supplement or in food though. It’s a very unstable molecule, its life is just 90 seconds! But, it’s not a big deal to work for it. A significant amount we produce within the nasal cavity, and fortunately there are several exercises that help to induce its production.
36 young male with erectile dysfunction participated in a study where their nasal polyp got removed. They all reported improved erectile function.(1) The reason is that a lot of nitric oxide you produce in the nasal cavity and with nasal breathing you can learn inducing its production. I will teach special technics in the coming Endo-Gym classes in order to learn this. This is the easy way.
Another way of inducing its production with exercises is this routine e.g. It’s fun for kids and a bless for adults, the so called Nitric Oxide Dump. Most of all it’s short. Anyone can start with 10 repetitions of each movement, when ready you may increase it to 15 or 20 reps. One cycle consists out of 4 movements and we repeat the cycle 3 times. It resembles of HIIT, but much shorter and perhaps more fun. It’s absolutely more doable for all. (I introduced it to my family during the corona lock-downs, it was an absolute success. )
As a result of this exercise routine you release more nitric oxide in nearly all cells of your body. Nitric oxide expands and dilates blood vessels (hence it’s one of the most successful cures for erectile dysfunction), promoting blood flow and lowering your blood pressure. It also improves your immune function, and because it decreases blood viscosity it reduces your risk of developing a life-threatening blood clot. Another benefit of nitric oxide is that it’s a powerful anabolic stimulus known to help increase your lean body mass. When you increase your muscle mass, your body is more easily able to burn fat for fuel.
Nitric oxide is also a good type of free radical, which signals your body to create more mitochondria. Mitochondria are the powerhouse in each of your cells, they produce your energy in the form of ATP molecules, they help to burn fat tissue and help your liver, brain and kidneys.
Dr. Zach Bush, board certified in internal medicine, endocrinology and metabolism, says the more you do this routine, the better it works, but don’t repeat it within 90 minutes. Our blood vessels store nitric oxide for 90 seconds. It means you may repeat it max in every 2nd hour 2-3 times a day.
The good news is that you may stimulate nitric oxide production in easier ways, too. come to the Hormone Club and find out how.
